Give blood for the black community
The increased demand for some rare subtypes, such as Ro, that are more common in people of Black heritage means we need more black people to become blood donors.
Demand for these subtypes is growing as more people have regular transfusions to treat blood disorders such as sickle cell.
Sickle cell disease is the most common inherited genetic disorder in the UK. The disease is usually found in people of African heritage (in 90% of British patients), although it’s also found in those from Caribbean, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean backgrounds.
Use our materials to let people know about the need for more black blood donors and how they can help sickle cell patients in need of lifesaving blood.
