Advanced therapies
Harnessing the power of stem cells to create new, healthy cells and restore damaged ones
Regenerate, repair or replace damaged cells or tissue
This is a fast-moving, interdisciplinary field of research that focuses on restoring and restructuring diseased or damaged tissue and organs. Our pioneering work spans tissue engineering, cellular and gene therapies, and immunotherapies. It has the potential to have a huge impact on our blood, organ and stem cell services, and offers great hope for improved patient outcomes across many conditions.
Our advanced therapies strategy
- Strengthen our position in the development, assessment and clinical delivery of regenerative medicine based therapies
- Conduct a first-in-man clinical trial of manufactured red cells to compare the survival of red cells manufactured from stem cells with that of standard red cells from blood donors
- Continue to support pre-clinical science on manufactured red cells and platelets with cell biology research to understand how stem cells turn into blood cells
