Assistant Director for Organ Donation and Nursing

Anthony's story

I take great pride in leading a team that saves and improves the lives of thousands of our fellow citizens every year. As the Assistant Director for Organ Donation and Nursing I am responsible for the specialist nursing workforce that facilitates organ donation across the whole of the UK, 24hrs a day 365 days a year. It’s a role that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure.

In Organ Donation we constantly strive to achieve excellence, both in the numbers of life-saving donors we facilitate and in the service we provide for the families who entrust their loved ones to us at that difficult time. This makes for an invigorating working environment as we work as a team to constantly improve our policies and processes and develop our service. All ideas are welcome and every member of the team in every role is equally valued for the knowledge and enthusiasm they bring to their work.

NHSBT is the only NHS authority to provide a truly UK wide service and with that comes a myriad of opportunities.

We seek to employ the very best nurses from across the country and train them into our Specialist Nurse – Organ Donation role. I am constantly impressed by the dedication and commitment of my nursing colleagues and as I travel the UK I have the opportunity to see at first hand the difference committed nurses are making to organ donation and the patients and families they care for.

Working in organ donation and transplantation is unlike any other role in the NHS. The opportunities for professional and personal development are outstanding and above all we work in the knowledge that what we do literally saves and improves lives.
