A winning approach delivering results
I am delighted that we won the 2017 HR Distinction Award in People Management for our ‘SHINE’ development programme. The award acknowledges the unique learning and development strategies we have to develop and embed leadership skills in our employees, ensuring we have a pool of talented people who can progress through our organisation.
Focussing on Organisational Development, Leadership & Management and Staff Engagement we have developed a number of toolkits that individuals can use to enhance their career and managers can use to develop their teams. Our in-house training programmes are now well attended, and our development pathways include aspiring managers - right up to Chief Executives of the future.
This year we’re further investing in IT so that staff can access e-learning on any personal device, meaning they have access to training when they need it. We want staff to develop skills in areas they never thought they could! And we’ll continue to run staff engagement and focus groups, hearing what our staff have to say and putting their suggestions into practice.

Not only were we recognised for our People Management, we were also shortlisted for the 2017 HR Distinction Award in Talent Management for our innovative approach to Values Based Recruitment.
Our Values of Caring, Expert and Quality, and associated behaviours, are key to everything we do. It is vital that these are shared by our new recruits as well existing employees.
Research showed us that using ‘traditional’ NHS recruitment materials was making it hard for us to engage with candidates. Our new approach means that we now attract high quality candidates who share our values and behaviours.
As part of our commitment to sharing best practice we are working with NHS Employers to help other organisations develop their own approach to values based recruitment.
