Research Approval

Having been rolled out in April 2016, the current process for research approval is that all research conducted within the NHS in England is required to gain approval from the Health Research Authority (HRA).

HRA approval brings together an assessment of governance and legal compliance - as undertaken by dedicated HRA staff - with an independent Research and Ethics Committee (REC) opinion provided via the UK Research Ethics Service (RES).

Some studies involving NHSBT do not require HRA approval.
