Title: Improving the database of outcomes for stem cell transplant recipients and both the short and long term follow-up of donors from the British Bone Marrow Registry
Chief investigator: Professor Vanderson Rocha

Summary

The number of allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplants (HSCT) using unrelated donors continues to increase. However, information on the type and relative risk of serious adverse reactions after donation is limited and little data exists on long-term donor outcome.

Important prognostic factors for recipient outcomes such as the impact of HLA matching have modified the current choice of donors and impacted survival of recipients.

This study will create a combined database of patient and donor outcomes from the British Bone Marrow Register and European Blood and Marrow Transplant (EBMT) group.

The database will be used to evaluate the clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness of HSC transplantation, and to monitor safety and harm to stem cell donors and recipients.
