Detection and identification of clinically significant blood group specific antibodies in patients requiring blood transfusion can be difficult if antibodies to high frequency antigens are also present.
This can include therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, some of which target molecules expressed on the red cell membrane (e.g. Daratumumab, which recognises CD38).
Soluble recombinant (sr) proteins can be used to inhibit haemagglutination by these ‘nuisance’ antibodies, allowing identification of underlying clinically significant antibodies.
Sr proteins are pre-incubated with patient serum or plasma before addition of the inhibited patient sample to panel red blood cells.
These products are available to UK transfusion services and overseas customers.

Knops Inhibition Reagent (KNIR)
Product code: 9497
KNIR contains a mixture of two srCR1 proteins that inhibit red cell agglutination by CR1-related antibodies in both gel and tube agglutination tests.
One vial of KNIR is sufficient for up to 12 inhibition reactions.
Product now shipped at ambient temperature - transfer to -20°C on receipt and store frozen.
Soluble recombinant CD38 (srCD38)

Inhibits red cell agglutination by therapeutic anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (e.g. Daratumumab), in both gel and tube agglutination tests.
One vial of srCD38 is sufficient for up to 6 inhibition reactions.
Product now shipped at ambient temperature - transfer to -20°C on receipt and store frozen.
