Blood products, cells and tissue for research

We can provide blood products, cells and tissue to approved recipients for permitted non-clinical uses through a managed, governed service we call non-clinical issue (NCI).

Our team delivers high quality clinical trials to provide the evidence that will improve patient care; primarily in the fields of transfusion medicine, organ donation and transplantation, tissue and stem cell transplantation.

British Bone Marrow Registry

The British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) helps people find stem cell matches and recruit potential donors from our dedicated blood donors. We work in co-operation with the UK’s other bone marrow and blood donor registries, the charity Anthony Nolan and the NHS Cord Blood Bank.

How we help

Stem cell donation for clinical use and as a starting point for ATMP

NHSBT Cord Blood Bank has over 22,000 generously donated cord blood units taken from the placenta and umbilical cord after the birth of a baby, which otherwise would have been discarded. 16,000 of these are suitable for clinical transplant whilst the remainder are available for research into new cell therapies.
