Associated NHSBT services
NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is operationally unique and encompasses a variety of departments which complement and enhance each other's capabilities. If you are interested in advanced therapies, you may like to find out more about the departments we work most closely with.
British Bone Marrow Registry
The British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) helps people find stem cell matches and recruit potential donors from our dedicated blood donors. We work in co-operation with the UK’s other bone marrow and blood donor registries, the charity Anthony Nolan and the NHS Cord Blood Bank.
Stem cell donation for clinical use and as a starting point for ATMP
NHSBT Cord Blood Bank has over 22,000 generously donated cord blood units taken from the placenta and umbilical cord after the birth of a baby, which otherwise would have been discarded. 16,000 of these are suitable for clinical transplant whilst the remainder are available for research into new cell therapies.
