Tissue Services

Overview

NHS Blood and Transplant Tissue Services works within the highly regulated environment of the national Blood Service, and operates under the same quality system. The system ensures traceability of tissues from donor to recipient hospital and the highest standards of microbiology testing. The principles of Good Manufacturing Practice are followed, in line with licensed Blood centres and the pharmaceutical industry.

All procedures are designed to comply with The Human Tissue Act (2004), the HTA codes of practice,the EU Cell and Tissue Directive, EU Regulations and Guidance on Microbiological Safety of Human Organs, Tissue and Cells used in Transplantation and with the Guidelines for the Blood Transfusion Service in the UK.
