‘Turn Yr Wyddfa Pink’ walk for Organ Donation
On Friday 18 September 2026 over 100 family members and friends of organ donors, transplant recipients, and NHS staff gathered together for the 'Turn Yr Wyddfa Pink' walk to recognise those who've given the gift of life and amplify the message of the importance of organ donation.
About the walk
This walk up Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) was supported by patients who need transplants themselves, who couldn't take part in the walk but instead joined to greet those taking part at the end of the gruelling walk.
The special event was organised by a team of specialist nurses and clinical leads for organ donation. Abi Roberts, one of the organisers said:
"This annual event is important to all of us who take part. It provides a chance for families to come together to pay tribute to their loved ones and for transplant recipients to meet families and together we reflect on the how incredible organ and tissue donation is.
"The walk was a challenge. We had to battle rain and strong wind, which disappointingly prevented us from submitting the mountain. Our dialysis patients weren’t able to come up on the train as planned. Nevertheless, we all made the most of it. It served as a reminder of how every day is a challenge for people waiting for a transplant and for those navigating loss."
Welsh opera star Rhys Meirion, who took part in the walk added:
"When Elen, my sister, donated her organs back in 2012 our family felt that through saving the lives of others something magic came out of this tragic time.
"We've become passionate supporters of organ donation and were so pleased to be able to walk and talk with other donor families as well as organ recipients. We are united with one purpose, to help create a future where every patient gets the organ or tissue donation they need, and every donor family gets the support they deserve.
"Coming together as we did has motivated me to do even more to encourage people to register their organ donation decision and share their decision with the families so that together we can save more lives. My heartfelt thanks to all involved and to everyone who shared their stories with my family and I as we walked."

The event has raised over £5,800.00 for the NHSBT Charity. The funds raised will fund additional support services for a family experiencing grief, patients waiting for or who have received a transplant. Thank you to all who have supported the walkers’ fundraising efforts.
