NHS Blood and Transplant and SHOT have been shortlisted 3 times in prestigious patient safety awards
3 different programmes - all based on improving safety through digital transformation - were recognised in the Health Service Journal Patient Safety Awards.
The shortlisted entries are:
- Electronic requesting and reporting of NHS Blood and Transplant referral samples. We worked with hospitals to automate systems, to reduce errors. Shortlisted for the Safety Improvement through Technology Award.
- RCI Assist: A Digital Decision Support Tool to Improve Transfusion Safety. This enabled hospital lab staff to help decide if they need to send a sample for further testing. Shortlisted for the Advancing Patient Safety with Data and Analytics Award.
- The Serious Hazards of Transfusion (SHOT) My Transfusion digital resource, co-produced with patients, to transform consent and safety. The UK’s first blood transfusion information app, aim. Shortlisted for the Patient Involvement in Safety Award.
The shortlisted entries will be presenting to a panel of judges on 17 July. The final results will be announced on 28 September at an awards ceremony during the HSJ Patient Safety Congress. SHOT is supported by NHSBT and Medical Director Shruthi Narayan is a consultant haematologist for NHSBT.
One of NHSBT's strategic priorities is to modernise operations to improve safety.
