In March 2024, NHS Blood and Transplant collaborated with the Department of Health and Social Care and the Home Office.

An innovative user-centred service redesign that prompts individuals applying to renew their passport through email and/or text, to register an organ donation decision.

The initiative was announced by Minister Lord Murray and Health Minister Neil O'Brien. It was expected that 7.5 million passport renewals would take place in 2024, making this a great opportunity to reach a very wide audience.

Since its launch, over 47,482 organ donation decisions have been confirmed through this partnership.
