Civil Service
Civil servants are helping save lives and the numbers are remarkable.
NHS Blood and Transplant is proud to work with the Civil Service Blood and Donation (CSBD) Network, a volunteer-led community of civil servants, committed to making donation part of everyday working life.
Over the past year, that partnership has produced results that genuinely save lives. Activity across the network is estimated to have supported 5,025 adult lives, or 10,050 infant lives.
At the heart of this work are 'What's Your Blood Type' events, where civil servants can find out their blood type through a simple finger-prick test. In the past year, 31 events took place across the country, reaching over 95,000 people. From those events, 1,109 new blood donors and 48 new plasma donors registered to give.
The network also attended 5 national expos, reaching nearly 13,000 employees and signing up 176 new donors. 4 on-site donation sessions at Ministry of Defence locations reached over 266,000 employees and recorded 342 blood donations.
Beyond events, the network shared repeated and consistent communications across government departments, generating millions in digital impressions.
The network has also been driving lasting change behind the scenes. It has been promoting the Donate Breaks campaign and has achieved this change in 13 government departments to make donating blood during working hours a reality for civil servants, removing one of the most common barriers to giving.
This year marks 5 years of collaboration between CSBD and NHS Blood and Transplant. Together, we've helped move national blood stocks out of amber alert status, a real and urgent difference.
None of this happens without volunteers. Civil servants giving their time and championing donation in their workplaces are at the core of everything this network achieves.
Could your workplace do the same?
