Keira needed a stem cell transplant to survive

Keira was three months old when she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder

When Keira Quigley went for her routine three-month inoculations, her GP diagnosed a rare blood condition that left her with an abnormally low number of white cells.

Keira's only hope of recovery was to have a stem cell transplant after strong chemotherapy which left her without any defences of her own to fight infection.

During her treatment, seven units of platelets were needed to protect Keira from life threatening bleeding. Happily after four months she was well enough to return home.
