NHSBT is a great organisation to work for as they are always trying to improve the way they do things. They encourage people from all backgrounds to achieve and progress to a higher level.
Torkwase Holmes

British Bone Marrow Registry (BBMR) Team Leader

Torkwase's story

I have worked for NHSBT for 15 years. I am currently one of two Team Leaders managing a team of ten Stem Cell Coordinators. Our main role is to provide service users, such as Transplant Centres, with information on potential donors from our registry for patients who are suffering with various cancer-related diseases.

I have had a lot of training and progression opportunities at NHSBT. I moved up from a Stem Cell Coordinator to a Team Leader. I have also completed a course in leadership and management which has given me the confidence to be able to manage and motivate my own team.

I love the job I do as it is very rewarding knowing that I contribute to the saving of lives. My team are great to work with as we participate in lots of activities together, and we are passionate about the work we do.

I recently became a Donor Ambassador for NHSBT, which involves going out into the community to encourage more people from the BAME community to join the BBMR, Organ Registry and to give blood.

I would recommend working for NHSBT because the window of opportunity is always open.
