The NHSBT Charity

With your support, we help save and improve lives by building on the care and support for patients, donors and donor families provided by NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) and its partners.

Many people depend on NHSBT for lifesaving transfusions, transplants and treatments. NHSBT depends on our charitable support to do even more for people and together we can push the boundaries of what's possible in donation and transplantation.

The NHSBT Charity is registered with the Charity Commission, Registered Charity Number 1061771.

How your support can help save and improve lives

The NHSBT Charity helps improve vital services in a number of ways. We help fund new facilities and equipment, power more ground breaking research and enable experts to trial more support, training and education programmes.

With your generosity, NHSBT and its partners can do even more for people across the UK who rely on blood, organ, tissue, platelets, plasma or stem cell donations to survive.

What we fund goes over and above what the NHS provides. NHS colleagues delivering donation and transplantation services and developing new treatments determine what the charity prioritises, so we can respond to the urgent voices of patients and their families.

To make sure your support has the greatest impact, we follow a simple 3 step process:

  1. NHSBT and associated NHS staff request funding from the Charity
  2. Specially selected experts, supported by patients or relatives with lived experience, then review these requests
  3. Priority requests are funded or selected for future funding, so the improvements or discoveries can begin

Your support could help us fund impactful projects and build on the great work we've already done. Examples of what we've funded include a research programme into stem cell transplants and blood transfusion, events bringing paediatric organ recipients and their families together; additional wellbeing support and training for NHS staff supporting patients experiencing trauma; memory boxes for organ donor families.
