Stem Cells

As a natural extension of our blood service we provide expert support to Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) often described as "bone marrow transplantation" for half of all stem cell transplants performed on patients in the UK each year. This is an expanding field as the range of treatment options increases.

We aim to use our national network of GMP facilities and regulatory expertise to become the preferred partner to the NHS, academic and commercial organisations for the development and provision of stem cell and related cell therapies. With the backing of the Government we will be developing the next generation of highly personalised cell therapies for patients undergoing a transplant or requiring another cell therapy based treatment.

All our laboratories are regulated by the HTA (Human Tissue Authority) and acredited by JACIE, the international body inspecting bone marrow transplant programmes. We are also licensed by the MHRA (Medicines and Health Care Regulatory Agency) on a number of sites for the provision of Cell and DNA based investigational medicial products.
