Welcome to NHS Blood and Transplant's Annual Review of 2011/12, we hope it will give
you an insight into our life saving work. 2011/12 was another year in which we made
very good progress to improve our services. We have also spent some time looking at
future needs, in preparation for the publication of our Strategic Plan 2012-17. Our
focus over the next five years is to become the best organisation of our type in the world.
None of our successes over the past year would have been possible without the generosity of blood and stem cell donors who give their time to help save or improve the lives of strangers. Our heartfelt thanks to them and to all those who became organ or tissue donors who, through their precious gift, gave life to almost 4,000 people last year and who offer hope to patients still on the transplant waiting list.
